Masterpiece Yixing Zisha Teapot: Artistic Fish-Mouth Design with Xu Beihong-Inspired Carvings
$342.86Handmade Yixing zisha teapot with fish-inspired Xishi design, 220cc capacity, featuring master carvings by Li Wei and premium red clay craftsmanship.
The Yixing purple clay teapot stands as a unique representative of traditional Chinese handicrafts. This tea ware not only possesses practical value but also carries profound cultural significance. The teapot featured today, named "Joyful Xishi Fish," was collaboratively created by two contemporary artists, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship in purple clay teapot production.
Crafted by national-level senior craft artist Jiang Yaping, an expert in Yixing zisha teapot creation who studied under renowned master Gu Shaopei, this piece employs original mine pear-skin vermilion clay. Fired at high temperatures, this special material develops unique granular textures resembling natural pear skin. Its 220cc capacity balances daily practicality with delicate aesthetics.
The design reimagines the classic "Xishi teapot" silhouette. The spout resembles a fish mouth slightly opening as if blowing bubbles, while the lid knob mimics rolling waves, visually conveying the "aquatic joy" theme. The ergonomic handle combines modern aesthetics with comfortable grip through its wide-narrow structure.
Decoration was completed by Jiangsu ceramic art master Li Wei, professor and dean at Wuxi Institute of Arts and Crafts. He integrated traditional painting with teapot craftsmanship by engraving Xu Beihong's "Fox in Snowy Pines" painting on the front. The reverse features the poetic inscription "Leisurely watching spring waters with carefree heart" in fluid calligraphy.
This handmade zisha teapot demonstrates exceptional functionality through its diamond-shaped 14-hole water outlet design that filters leaves while maintaining smooth pouring. The precise lid-body fit prevents leakage, while the porous clay gradually enhances tea flavor over time.
As a collectible-grade piece, it embodies multiple artistic values. Jiang's three-decade expertise ensures perfect shaping, while Li's multidisciplinary decorations elevate cultural depth. Their collaboration fuses practical utility with artistic expression.
Proper maintenance involves initial water rinsing, temperature control during brewing, and prompt cleaning after use. When stored long-term, keep dry and ventilated. A well-cared purple clay teapot develops characteristic luster through years of use.
The "Joyful Xishi Fish" teapot appeals to tea enthusiasts seeking refined living. More than functional ware, it serves as palm-sized artwork helping international friends understand China's "vessels embodying philosophy" concept. This Yixing zisha teapot blending traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics merits recommendation for both daily use and collection.
