2007 Dragon Blood Clay Yixing Teapot: Rare Craftsmanship & Wealth Symbolism
$385.71Rare Dragon Blood Clay teapot, 250cc, hand-sculpted镂空 design. High iron content enhances brewing, develops jade-like patina through use. Symbolizes fortune.
The purple clay teapot is a treasure among traditional Chinese handicrafts. Today's featured teapot, created by Master Yang Peng, bears the distinctive name "Fully Hand-Carved Chrysanthemum Bud". This 250ml teapot utilizes an exceptionally rare material - Golden Dragon Blood Clay, which carries an astonishing origin story.
During road construction in Dingshu Town, Jiangsu Province in 2007, workers discovered a special mineral layer at No.3 Slope of Huanglong Mountain. Located merely 50 meters from the renowned Dashuitan mining site, the unearthed ore differed completely. Between two massive rocks, workers found a thin layer of dark red clay, its thickest section not exceeding 15cm. Veteran miners recalled never encountering such blood-red zisha clay throughout their careers at Huanglong Mountain. Locals dubbed this color "dragon's blood vessels", believing teapots made from this material could attract fortune and prosperity.
Laboratory analysis revealed this "Golden Dragon Blood Clay" contains extraordinary iron oxide content. With ferric oxide levels reaching 2.46% - nearly double ordinary zisha clay - it represents the highest iron-content purple clay ever documented. This composition creates magical transformations during firing: at 1180°C, the teapot body displays pure Chinese red; higher temperatures induce metallic luster.
Crafting with this clay presents unique challenges. Its granular structure consists almost entirely of coarse particles lacking adhesion. Even when ground to ultra-fine 100-mesh powder, repeated pounding struggles to form shapes. Yet this characteristic grants finished teapots exceptional breathability, surpassing even famous Di Cao Qing clay. Artisans must employ extra patience and skill to tame these "rebellious" grains into exquisite teapots.
Freshly fired purple clay teapots appear unremarkable with matte surfaces. Through daily use and maintenance, surprising transformations occur. As tea liquor permeates the body and oils develop patina, the teapot gradually reveals jade-like luster. This evolution mirrors unpolished jade gaining brilliance, allowing users to experience the teapot's "increasing beauty through use".
The "Fully Hand-Carved Chrysanthemum Bud" design demonstrates exceptional craftsmanship. Delicate chrysanthemum patterns emerge through layered petal carvings, balancing aesthetic precision with structural integrity. Specially treated lid-body connections prevent dripping. The 250ml capacity accommodates solitary contemplation or small gatherings.
Jiangnan region folklore associates blood with "prosperous energy". Golden Dragon Blood Clay teapots are believed to help accumulate wealth during tea sessions. While scientifically unproven, this belief enhances their cultural charm. Collectors value these pieces not just as utensils, but as spiritual props carrying auspicious wishes.
Authentic Golden Dragon Blood Clay teapots have become rare. The original 1-ton mineral deposit has nearly depleted after fifteen years of use. Master Yang's creation showcases both exquisite craftsmanship and precious material heritage. Each brewing session celebrates the harmonious blend of natural minerals and human artistry.
Special maintenance applies: extreme breathability requires dedicated use for single tea types. Immediate cleaning prevents residue. Over years, the body color transitions from fiery red to deep burgundy, while surface luster grows increasingly mellow. This gradual metamorphosis endows the teapot with unique vitality.
From rare subterranean minerals to artistic masterpiece, this purple clay teapot embodies countless narratives. It serves as both functional utensil and collectible artifact. When hot water fills its chamber and tea leaves unfurl, the teapot seems to whisper its legend. Each use converses with traditional craftsmanship; each maintenance ritual silently honors artisan spirit.
