Wang Fang’s Antique Ruyi Zisha Teapot: A Masterpiece of Yixing Clay Artistry
$471.43Master-crafted Yixing teapot using Dancai clay, 490cc capacity. Created by Wang Fang, descendant of Zisha legend Wang Yin Chun. Collectors' edition blending heritage craftsmanship with artistic excellence.
This is a zisha teapot named "Antique Ruyi", created by Master Wang Fang. Born into China's renowned zisha teapot-making family, Master Wang carries the legacy of her grandfather Wang Yinchu - recognized as one of the seven most significant purple clay teapot masters since the founding of New China, who played a pivotal role in preserving this traditional craft.
The teapot utilizes a special material called Dancing Color Clay, a meticulously formulated zisha clay that reveals unique chromatic gradations through temperature-controlled firing. Artisans must master precise kiln techniques to activate the natural color transitions. The resulting surface displays ink-wash painting-like patterns through alternating light and dark textures.
With 490ml capacity, this medium-large yixing teapot accommodates both daily use and group tea sessions. Its fluid contours feature calculated spout-handle proportions ensuring drip-free pouring, while the tightly fitted lid remains secure even when inverted, demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship.
Born in 1968 in Dingshu Town (the "Yixing Teapot Homeland"), Wang Fang apprenticed under her father Wang Sanda - third son of Wang Yinchu - after high school. She further studied with renowned uncles Wang Shigeng and Wang Xiaolong, absorbing diverse techniques. Around 2000, her professional training in teapot design revealed exceptional talent for blending traditional essence with modern aesthetics. The "Antique Ruyi" exemplifies this fusion, featuring simplified ruyi patterns that modernize ancient auspicious motifs.
Crafting a handmade yixing zisha teapot involves over thirty procedures: clay selection, bubble-removing hammering, bamboo-tool shaping, and temperature-sensitive firing. Master Wang insists on full manual production, requiring fifteen days per piece. The lid's ancient jade-inspired knob ensures comfortable grip, while the matte surface retains zisha's characteristic granular texture. Regular use gradually enhances the teapot's luster through tea infusion.
Collectors praise Wang's works as "bearing her grandfather's essence with contemporary innovation". Her thoughtful designs include built-in spout filters and the "Wang Fang Handmade" bottom seal guaranteeing quality. Now a senior craft artist, her creations frequently grace professional publications. This purple clay teapot set piece combines functionality with artistic merit, allowing international tea enthusiasts to experience China's tea culture through its harmonious blend of tradition and modernity. The swirling water within whispers century-old stories of this teapot-making dynasty with every pour.
