Zisha Teapot: A Masterpiece by Gu Shaopei's Senior Apprentice, Priced at 2100 CNY
Zisha teapots, as treasures of Chinese traditional culture, have always been cherished by scholars and connoisseurs. This particular zisha teapot, priced at 2100 CNY, is a meticulously crafted work by Jiang Yaping, a senior apprentice of Gu Shaopei and a national-level senior master of arts and crafts. The teapot is named De Zhong.
A Collaborative Artistic Treasure
The decoration of this zisha teapot was personally handled by Li Wei, a master of ceramic art in Jiangsu Province. Li Wei is not only a full professor and dean of the Art Design Department at Wuxi Institute of Arts and Crafts but also serves as vice president of the Yixing Landscape Painting Association and a specially appointed researcher at the Xu Beihong Wu Guanzhong Art Academy. He intricately carved a beautiful landscape on the front side of the teapot and inscribed the poem line "Gentle spring breeze leads to blue clouds" on the back, endowing the teapot with both practical value and artistic charm.
Traditional Firing Method Using Original Tiger Skin Gold Sand Clay
This zisha teapot is made from original tiger skin gold sand clay and fired using the ancient fire trace method. Master Jiang Yaping spent five years developing this series, culminating in this stunning creation. Fire trace firing is an extremely old technique that involves firing in sealed pots using canister natural gas at high temperatures (nowadays, pipeline natural gas is fully used in Dingshu Town, making this firing method obsolete in Dingshan). The flames leave behind colorful patterns like rainbows—red, orange, yellow, black, and more—creating a visual effect described as "a streak of fire trace, worth waiting for a thousand years."
The Unique Charm of Fire Trace
Fire traces vary depending on the clay body and are closely related to the firing method. In an oxidizing or reducing atmosphere, wood ash flows with the flame direction inside the kiln, forming "fire paths" as the flame enters through the air intake holes. The resulting fire traces are one of the key characteristics of wood-fired ceramics. Artists often transform their unique understanding of "flame" into creative inspiration. Achieving the desired fire trace effect requires meticulous research on kiln placement, combining timing, location, and human effort perfectly. Thus, fire traces are rare and unpredictable.
Perfect Interpretation of a Classic Shape
The De Zhong model is a classic design, hard to surpass. The cylindrical knob matches the body of the teapot, with a slightly domed lid that fits tightly over the mouth. The large opening facilitates easy tea leaf insertion and removal. The shoulder is slightly flat, and the neck gently slopes, ensuring the teapot does not appear short and stout but rather combines stability and elegance. The spout extends straight out smoothly, while the handle is broad and comfortable to hold. Both aesthetically and functionally, the De Zhong stands as a classic zisha teapot.
Limited Edition with High Collectible Value
Due to the use of the ancient fire trace firing method, each zisha teapot is a unique piece of art. Combined with Jiang Yaping's five-year refinement and Li Wei's exquisite decoration, this teapot transcends being just a tea utensil; it is a collectible masterpiece. For zisha enthusiasts, this De Zhong priced at 2100 CNY is undoubtedly an excellent choice, well worth acquiring.
In summary, this zisha teapot embodies the dedication of multiple masters and represents a perfect blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern art. It is suitable for daily tea appreciation and can be passed down as a precious heirloom.
