Jade Rabbit Blessing Zisha Teapot: Masterpiece by Shi Futang, Yixing Ceramics Expert
$471.43Handmade Yixing zisha teapot with carved motifs, using premium base-slot clay. Crafted by award-winning master Shi Futang, blending tradition and artistry.
The Yixing zisha teapot is a treasure in Chinese traditional handicrafts. The teapot introduced today, named "Jade Rabbit Auspiciousness," was crafted by renowned artisan Shi Futang. This Jiangsu Yixing-based craftsman holds dual senior artisan titles, being both a national senior industrial artist and a rural revitalization senior craftsman. He also holds a special identity as the cousin of Shi Juntang, current president of Yixing Ceramic Industry Association.
The most striking feature of this handmade Yixing teapot lies in its sculptural design. The entire body adopts a jade rabbit as its creative theme, with the knob meticulously shaped into a crouching rabbit. The spout and handle curves mimic the arc of rabbit ears. By combining soft curves with angular structures, the creator preserves traditional functionality while adding vivid artistic beauty. Delicate engraved patterns on the surface echo the rabbit theme, showcasing unique Eastern aesthetics.
This purple clay teapot employs inherited Dicaoqing clay from Yixing's Huanglong Mountain. This special terracotta material, naturally aged for years, exhibits fine and even texture. After high-temperature firing, the clay reveals warm purplish-brown tones with scattered silver particles. The material not only appears elegant but also boasts excellent breathability to maintain tea's original flavor.
The creation process of this Chinese zisha teapot relies entirely on manual craftsmanship. From clay slab preparation to body forming and decorative carving, each step demands extreme concentration. The lid must fit silently, while the spout ensures smooth water flow. Artisans adjust techniques according to clay characteristics, requiring hundreds of strikes just for body shaping. This traditional craft strictly tests makers' experience and tactile sensitivity.
Master Shi Futang's background adds value to this Yixing purple clay teapot. He initially learned basic skills from veteran artist Shao Xinhe, later receiving guidance from floral ware master Wang Yinxian. Over forty years, he mastered various forms including smooth-surface, angular, and ribbed designs, especially excelling at integrating natural elements. "Jade Rabbit Auspiciousness" exemplifies his fusion of traditional techniques and innovative thinking.
This 500-milliliter zisha teapot serves both daily use and collection purposes. Its moderate capacity facilitates group tea sessions, while the ample belly allows proper tea leaf expansion. Long-term use naturally develops a warm patina through the pot nurturing process. The base clearly shows hand-engraved markings recording the maker's identity.
The purple clay teapot's unique charm lies in each piece being an irreplaceable artwork. Although modern technology enables mass production, handmade Yixing teapots remain highly valued. "Jade Rabbit Auspiciousness" not only demonstrates traditional craftsmanship but also conveys cultural symbolism through zodiac themes. For tea culture enthusiasts, this practical and artistic teapot makes a worthy collectible.
Recently, artisans like Shi Futang are revitalizing traditional skills. While maintaining handmade quality, they explore contemporary aesthetic designs. This Yixing zisha teapot has won multiple professional awards and been featured in ceramic art publications. As Chinese traditional culture gains global influence, these millennium-old craftsmanship vessels increasingly attract international collectors' attention.
