Exquisite Yixing Zisha Teapot Wangyue Gao Shipiao – Masterpiece by Guo Chaojiang & Xi Suofu
$857.14Guo Chaojiang's 500cc Yixing zisha teapot features Huanglongshan clay, intricate painted/carved designs, and comes with Xi Suofu's artwork. Timeless ceramic craftsmanship.
This Yixing purple clay teapot is the collaborative achievement of two artists. Teapot master Guo Chaogang and painter Xi Suofu jointly created this work, accompanied by an original painting personally drawn by Teacher Xi. The Chinese purple clay teapot serves not only as a tea brewing tool but also as a cultural carrier embodying traditional Chinese art.
Formally named "Wangyue Gaoshi Piao", the title's "Wangyue" evokes imagery of mountain ranges commonly seen in Chinese landscape paintings, while "Gaoshi Piao" indicates its classic shape. The stone dipper teapot form dates back to the Qing Dynasty, characterized by a triangular body, broad stable base, and short powerful spout. This handmade Yixing teapot modifies the traditional design with a taller body resembling an upright mountain peak.
Master Guo Chaogang, the creator, holds significant credentials as a member of Jiangsu Ceramic Art Committee and holds important positions in provincial arts and crafts associations. As the distinguished student of master Xu Xiutang, Guo has dedicated over thirty years to zisha teapot creation. His expertise lies in blending traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics, evident in this teapot's clean lines and ergonomically calculated handle curvature that combines functionality with geometric beauty.
With 500ml capacity, this medium-large Yixing zisha teapot features a spacious belly for optimal tea expansion and a straight spout for precise water control. The specially designed lid creates perfect seal without leakage, while the arched knob ensures secure grip. These details demonstrate the maker's emphasis on practical functionality.
Crafted from Huanglong Mountain's original mountain green clay, this rare material processed through traditional methods achieves a texture resembling mung bean paste. The fired surface exhibits golden highlights and silk-like smoothness. With prolonged use, the purple clay teapot will develop patina and deepen in color.
The most captivating feature is the decorative technique. Painter Xi Suofu first brushed colorful landscape patterns before engraving along the ink traces. This combined painting-carving technique demands exceptional skill, maintaining brushwork fluidity while controlling engraving depth. The front depicts layered peaks, back features ancient pines, with the inscription "Reaching the Summit" on the side. These patterns reveal subtle color transitions when heated.
Every component shows meticulous design. The tripod base maintains traditional stability while enhancing visual lightness. The spout and handle achieve perfect balance, aligning the center of gravity with the user's thumb web. Hidden air vents under the bridge-shaped knob ensure functionality without compromising aesthetics. Even the concave base ensures stable placement.
As functional teaware, this handmade Yixing zisha teapot excels in brewing pu'er and dark teas requiring high-temperature steeping. The clay's breathability promotes optimal tea oxidation, while wall thickness provides insulation without overheating. The 500ml capacity serves 4-6 people, with wide mouth facilitating cleaning and tea placement.
Maintenance requires special attention. New teapots should be sterilized with tea broth before initial use. Clean only with water—avoid detergents or abrasive tools that damage natural pores. Always air-dry with lid open after use, and store ventilated when unused. Proper care enhances the zisha teapot's luster and develops unique usage patina.
This collaboration embodies dual value: Guo ensures traditional craftsmanship excellence while Xi elevates artistic appeal. The accompanying landscape painting echoes teapot patterns, forming a complete art set. Such cross-disciplinary collaborations are revitalizing the zisha art world, preserving traditional skills while injecting contemporary artistic elements into ancient handicrafts.
