The Rare Dragon Blood Clay: Masterpiece Yixing Teapot with Fortune-Blessed Heritage
$385.71Rare Dragon Blood Clay teapot, 240cc, handcrafted with 24.6% iron content. High-temperature fired for metallic sheen, superior透气性, and auspicious symbolism.
The Yixing purple clay teapot stands as one of China's traditional handicraft masterpieces. Today's featured teapot from Master Yang Peng's studio carries special significance, named "Fully Handmade Persimmon Round 240cc Golden Dragon Blood". Its extraordinary material, Golden Dragon Blood Clay, holds a legendary origin story.
During 2007 road construction in Yixing's Dingshu Town, workers discovered a unique mineral stratum near Huanglong Mountain's No.3 Slope. Sandwiched between boulders with maximum 15cm thickness, this blood-red clay layer astonished veteran miners. Local folklore claims it as a dragon's blood vessel, with the clay's Jiangnan dialect name "Wang" (prosperity) making such teapots believed to bring fortune.
Laboratory tests reveal Golden Dragon Blood Clay contains 2.46% iron oxide (Fe₂O₃) - nearly double ordinary zisha clay's content, making it the highest iron-concentrated purple clay recorded. This composition creates remarkable thermal reactions: firing at 1180℃ yields classic Chinese red, while higher temperatures produce metallic luster.
Crafting challenges arise from the clay's granular structure and extremely low plasticity. Even when ground to 100 mesh (similar to flour fineness), shaping remains difficult through repeated hammering. However, these properties grant exceptional porosity after firing, surpassing standard base slot clay. The initially dull surface gradually develops jade-like luster through use.
High iron content enhances tea sweetness while the porous structure preserves aroma longer. The "nourishing" process occurs as tea gradually transforms the teapot's appearance - from initial red to deeper hues with natural patina over time.
This material has become exceedingly rare since only one ton was originally extracted. Master Yang Peng's fully handmade process demands over two weeks per piece, involving manual slab-forming, body-coiling, and spout-handle attachment.
The 240cc persimmon-shaped teapot symbolizes harvest abundance, featuring fluid lines and intricate carvings. Though challenging to create, proper maintenance ensures century-long service. Collectors value these teapots both for functionality and cultural narratives.
Using purple clay teapots has become spiritual props for many tea enthusiasts. Choosing such teapot resembles cultivating friendship - requiring patience and understanding. Golden Dragon Blood Clay teapots uniquely balance daily utility with artistic legacy, their evolving colors whispering stories of traditional craftsmanship with every brew.
