The Yixing teapot is a treasure among Chinese traditional handicrafts. In Dingshu Town, Yixing City, Jiangsu Province, there is a master named Yang Peng whose handmade Yixing zisha teapot creations are particularly renowned. Recently, he crafted a fully handmade purple clay teapot named "Rong Tian" using a rare clay material, with a capacity of 185 milliliters. The raw material for this teapot bears a magical name—"Golden Dragon Blood Clay." Its story traces back to 2007.

During the construction of Zisha Road in Dingshu Town that year, workers made an unexpected discovery at Huanglong Mountain's Third Slope. Approximately 50 meters from the famous Dashuitan mining pit, construction teams unearthed a unique layer of zisha ore between two massive rocks. This layer measured only 15 centimeters at its thickest point, weighing just over a ton, with a blood-red hue. Veteran miners who had worked locally for decades claimed they had never seen such crimson ore. Elders believed they had struck a dragon's blood vessel, as per Jiangnan folklore where "blood" symbolizes prosperity. Teapots made from this clay were said to bring owners good fortune and wealth.

Scientific analysis revealed extraordinary properties in this clay. Its iron trioxide content reached 2.46%—nearly double that of ordinary zisha clay, making it the highest iron-containing material of its kind. This composition caused remarkable transformations during firing. At 1180 degrees Celsius, the teapot body turned vibrant Chinese red. Higher temperatures induced metallic luster on the surface.

Working with Golden Dragon Blood Clay tests a potter's skill. The granular, low-viscosity material remains challenging even when ground into 100-mesh powder. Master Yang Peng spent triple the time required for regular clay to shape each piece. The effort pays off—successfully fired teapots exhibit unparalleled breathability, surpassing even the famed Di Cao Qing clay.

Newly fired Golden Dragon Blood Clay teapots appear dull and grayish. Magic unfolds during use: tea liquor gradually nourishes the surface. After three months of daily brewing, the teapot develops a jade-like luster. This "improving-with-use" quality captivates collectors.

The "Rong Tian" design embodies traditional Chinese philosophy. Its rounded body, short powerful spout, and tight-fitting lid symbolize cosmic harmony. The 185ml capacity suits 2-3 drinkers, while the ergonomic handle ensures comfortable pouring.

Yang Peng employed traditional tools—wooden turntable, bamboo trimming knife, and ox-horn smoothing tool. Seven days of meticulous handcrafting left characteristic finger marks on the inner walls, authenticating its handmade yixing teapot status.

This zisha teapot excels in brewing pu'er and aged white teas requiring high-temperature steeping. Its dual-pore structure absorbs tea aromas—over time, even plain water poured into the seasoned teapot gains subtle tea fragrance. Cleaning requires only hot water rinsing and air-drying.

Global supplies of handmade Chinese purple clay teapots dwindle annually. Yang Peng produces merely ten Golden Dragon Blood Clay teapots yearly, each accompanied by certification. For tea enthusiasts worldwide, these pieces serve both as functional wares and collectible artworks.

A final note: Authentic purple clay teapot sets exhibit slight granular texture without roughness. Overly smooth or brightly colored "zisha" products likely contain chemical additives. Always verify clay provenance to protect this 500-year-old craftsmanship legacy.
