Zisha Teapots: A Masterpiece by Gu Shaopei’s Senior Apprentice, Priced at 2100 CNY
Zisha teapots, as a traditional Chinese teaware, are deeply loved by tea enthusiasts for their unique craftsmanship and rich cultural heritage. Today, we introduce a Zisha teapot priced at 2100 CNY, crafted by Jiang Yaping, a senior apprentice of Gu Shaopei and a national-level senior arts and crafts master. This "Qin Quan" teapot is not only ingeniously designed but also reaches an extremely high standard in material selection and firing techniques.
Collaboration of Masters, Exquisite Craftsmanship
The decoration of this Zisha teapot was personally executed by Li Wei, a ceramics art master from Jiangsu Province. Li Wei is not only a full professor and dean of the Art Design Department at Wuxi Institute of Arts and Crafts but also the vice president of the Yixing Landscape Painting Association and a specially appointed researcher at the Xu Beihong Wu Guanzhong Art Academy. His involvement elevates this Zisha teapot from a functional teaware to a highly collectible work of art. The original tiger-skin golden sand clay was fired using ancient methods, with a capacity of 260cc and a diamond-shaped 14-hole spout, showcasing the meticulous attention to detail by the artisans.
Traditional Fire Mark Firing, Unique Texture
One of the most striking features of this Zisha teapot is its distinctive "fire mark" effect. After five years of research, Master Jiang Yaping finally launched this series. This teapot is fired using a sealed jar method, utilizing natural gas at high temperatures (now exclusively used in pipelines in Dingxu Town, making this firing technique obsolete in Dingshan). The flames leave behind colorful textures ranging from red, orange, yellow to black, resembling a rainbow's beauty. This fire mark is not only aesthetically pleasing but also a hallmark of wood-fired pottery.
The formation of fire marks is closely related to the firing method. In an oxidizing-reducing atmosphere, ash from the kiln flows with the flame, creating "fire paths" as the flame enters through the air intake holes. The areas touched by the flame occasionally display fire marks, which are key indicators of wood-fired pottery. Craftsmen often translate their unique understanding of "flame" into creative inspiration. Achieving the perfect fire mark requires in-depth study of kiln placement, aligning with the right time, location, and human effort. Therefore, fire marks are precious and rare, appearing only when all conditions are perfectly aligned.
Simple and Ancient, Scholarly Elegance
The overall design of this Zisha teapot is extremely simple and ancient, featuring a bridge-shaped knob that harmonizes with the body of the pot. The slightly flat knob exudes a sense of restraint and stability, perfectly capturing the essence of Qin Quan's ancient charm. The front side is engraved with bamboo imagery, swaying gracefully in the wind, while the back features the poem "Leisurely sipping a cup of tea, the rain quiets the flying dust." This elegant engraving not only adds a touch of scholarly elegance to the pot but also evokes the subtle fragrance of tea, making it a rare find.
Collection and Appreciation
Tea enthusiasts who love Zisha teapots should take a closer look. This teapot is not only suitable for daily tea brewing but also serves as a valuable collectible. Whether for personal collection or as a gift to friends and family, it is an excellent choice. Each process and every detail reflect the artisans' dedication and wisdom, making this Zisha teapot a unique artistic treasure.
In summary, this Zisha teapot, priced at 2100 CNY, is more than just a teapot; it is an art gem that embodies both traditional culture and modern craftsmanship. It showcases the outstanding skills of Gu Shaopei’s senior apprentice and highlights the profound depth of Zisha teapot culture. We hope every Zisha teapot lover can find their own peace and beauty in this exquisite piece.
