Authentic Yixing Zisha Teapot: Master Xu Shijuan's Republic Green Clay Artistry
$642.86National artist Xu Shijuan's 470cc Zisha teapot, crafted in Republic Green clay using ancient Han Fang design. Fully handmade collectible.
This Yixing purple clay teapot is named "Han Fang," representing a classic style in traditional zisha teapot design. Its square shape with rounded edges combines the solemnity of ancient bronze ware with modern aesthetics. Measuring approximately 15 cm in height and 12 cm in width, the 470ml capacity makes it ideal for serving tea to three to five people. The tightly fitting lid prevents leakage during pouring, ensuring practical functionality.
The teapot is crafted from distinctive "Republic-era green" clay, not a natural coloration but achieved by adding cobalt oxide to zisha clay. After high-temperature firing at 1180°C, it develops a deep ink-green hue that intensifies in luster with use while remaining colorfast. This material meets all safety standards without affecting tea quality.
Creator Xu Shijuan, a National Senior Craft Artist, has dedicated over thirty years to zisha artistry in Yixing, Jiangsu Province. Specializing in angular teapot designs, she shapes each purple clay teapot entirely through manual clay slab construction without molds - a technique requiring exceptional skill to prevent warping or cracking.
The twenty-day creation process involves hammering clay into even slabs with wooden mallets, shaping components separately, and precisely calculating shrinkage rates for perfect assembly after firing. The deceptively simple square knob demands exact four-sided symmetry, showcasing masterful craftsmanship.
Design elements balance clean lines with subtle curves - straight spout and handle complement the squared body softened by gently arched surfaces. The base bears Xu's seal as quality authentication. Every edge undergoes meticulous polishing for smooth tactile comfort.
Beyond aesthetics, this 470ml zisha teapot offers ergonomic handling and functional practicality. Its wide mouth accommodates whole tea leaves and simplifies cleaning. The porous Republic-era green clay enhances tea aroma over time, particularly suited for brewing black tea or Pu'er while maintaining optimal temperature.
Collectors value this handmade yixing teapot for its uniqueness and appreciating worth. Xu's limited annual production and personally engraved serial number enhance its rarity. Decades of use will develop a distinctive patina, deepening both color and character.
As modern rediscovery of traditional crafts grows, such purple clay teapots transcend utility to become spiritual props carrying artistic heritage. Each use connects with artisan warmth, making it equally suitable for daily tea service or as a family heirloom. The evolving narrative embedded through years of tea brewing constitutes its enduring charm.
