Zisha Teapot: Masterpiece by Gu Shaopei's Senior Apprentice, Jiang Yaping, Priced at 2100 CNY - "Xishi" Model
Zisha teapots, as treasures among traditional Chinese tea utensils, have always been beloved by tea enthusiasts and collectors. Today, we introduce a Zisha teapot that is not only a beautiful work of art but also a masterpiece embodying the dedication of several masters. This particular teapot, named "Xishi," was crafted by Jiang Yaping, a national-level senior process artist, and is priced at 2100 CNY. It is an outstanding creation by one of Gu Shaopei's senior apprentices, meticulously crafted over five years by Teacher Jiang Yaping.
Original Tiger Skin Gold Sand Clay with Traditional Fire-Scar Firing
This Zisha teapot is made from original tiger skin gold sand clay and features traditional fire-scar firing, with a capacity of 20cc. The unique firing method involves using sealed jars and natural gas at high temperatures. Nowadays, Dingshu Town has fully transitioned to pipeline natural gas, making this traditional firing method virtually extinct in Ding Mountain, thereby enhancing its rarity and value.
"A touch of fire scar, worth waiting a thousand years." The passage of flames leaves behind colorful patterns like a rainbow—red, orange, yellow, black, and more—creating a visually stunning texture. These fire scars are not only a visual delight but also a hallmark of wood-fired craftsmanship. Craftsmen infuse their unique understanding of "flames" into their creations, imbuing each fire scar with vitality and artistic charm.
Fire Scars and Firing Techniques
Fire scars vary on different clays and are closely related to the firing methods. In oxidizing or reducing atmospheres, wood ash flows with the flame direction inside the kiln, forming "fire paths" as the flames enter through vent holes. This effect requires craftsmen to conduct in-depth research on kiln positions and rely on perfect timing, location, and skill to achieve the most beautiful fire scars. Therefore, fire scars are precious and rare, making each piece with fire scars a unique work of art.
Traditional Shape and Decoration
The "Xishi" teapot is a classic Zisha teapot design, featuring a round body, a smooth lid, a short upturned spout, and a straight handle that balances the weight, adding a touch of gracefulness. The handle design shifts the center of gravity downward, creating a harmonious balance between the spout and handle. The entire teapot is decorated with engravings by Li Wei, resulting in a simple yet elegant design that invites endless appreciation.
Li Wei is a Jiangsu Provincial Ceramics Art Master, holds a full professor title, is a professor at Wuxi Institute of Arts and Crafts, serves as the Dean of the Art Design Department, Vice President of the Yixing Landscape Painting Association, and a specially appointed researcher at the Xu Beihong Wu Guanzhong Art Academy. His engraving skills are exceptional, enriching the cultural and artistic value of the Zisha teapot. Every stroke embodies his meticulous craftsmanship, transforming this teapot into both a practical tea utensil and a valuable heirloom.
Summary
This Zisha teapot, priced at 2100 CNY, integrates the dedication and wisdom of multiple masters. From material selection to firing techniques and decorative arts, it achieves an exceptionally high standard. It is not only a beautiful artwork but also a historical witness, carrying the artisans' unwavering pursuit of traditional craftsmanship and their infinite longing for beauty. For Zisha teapot enthusiasts, this is undoubtedly a treasure worth collecting. Each time you brew tea, you can feel the artisans' dedication and appreciate the profound cultural heritage behind the Zisha teapot.
