Master Wu Xiaojun's Hexagonal Teapot: A Republic-Era Zisha Artistry
$642.86Handmade Yixing zisha teapot by Wu Xiaojun, using 1970s Republic-era clay. 60cc capacity, hexagonal design, combines heritage craftsmanship with modern aesthetics.
The Yixing Zisha teapot stands as a treasure among Chinese traditional handicrafts. This handmade Yixing Zisha teapot serves not merely as tea brewing equipment, but as an artistic embodiment of cultural heritage and craftsmanship. The featured purple clay teapot originates from Wu Xiaojun, a national-level senior craft artist. As third-generation successor to Gu Jingzhou (revered master of Zisha teapot creation), Wu inherits profound family expertise - his father Wu Yaping being another significant figure in Yixing clay art, making this Chinese Zisha teapot particularly collectible.
Named "Liufang Xiaoying", this Yixing teapot reveals two distinctive characteristics. "Liufang" refers to its hexagonal architecture, comprising six precisely symmetrical planes demanding exceptional shaping skills. "Xiaoying" manifests in the smiling-cherry design elements: the spout's subtle upward curve harmonizes with the handle's fluid arc, resembling blossoming cherry branches.
With 60ml capacity, this compact Yixing purple clay teapot suits personal use or paired tea sessions. Its miniature scale ensures quick brewing while maintaining balanced proportions. The ergonomic handle and smooth-pouring spout demonstrate functional refinement, particularly ideal for brewing aromatic oolong or pu'er teas.
This China purple clay teapot utilizes rare material - vintage Lüni clay stored since the 1970s by Yixing Zisha Factory. Decades of natural aging enabled metal components to oxidize completely, achieving optimal breathability and stability. The fired surface develops a warm luster that deepens through prolonged tea infusion.
Wu employed traditional hand-building techniques throughout creation. Six trapezoidal clay slabs were precisely calculated to accommodate firing shrinkage. The spout and handle were hand-sculpted with millimeter-perfect adjustments. The lid achieves silent-fit precision when shaken - ultimate test of mastery.
This Zisha teapot masterwork blends utility and artistry. As daily utensil, it enhances tea experience; as cultural artifact, it encapsulates Chinese craft essence. Though small, it embodies formal aesthetics, material mastery, and tea philosophy. Through prolonged use, tea oils gradually form natural "tea mountains" inside, enriching brew flavors.
For collectors, this handmade Yixing teapot holds multidimensional value: technical (showcasing core craftsmanship), cultural (hexagonal design reflecting architectural wisdom), and historical (documenting Gu Jingzhou's lineage). As time progresses, this meticulously crafted Chinese Yixing teapot will reveal increasingly unique charm through patient cultivation.
